Give a pen today to build a school tomorrow! OnemillionPens is a small campaign driven by my PenFriends and me to help children in Africa get better access to education. Not the best, but at least the minimum "read and write" that every child should be entitled to. I strongly believe in education for a better life, and education, especially for children should be a right, not a privilege. Where I'm from, it happens that some parents refuse to send their children to school, out of ignorance even if they can afford it. Others don’t send their kids to school because they simply cannot afford it. While struggling to make ends meet (with less than a dollar a day), they have to buy books, pens and pencils and pay school fees. In many rural areas of Africa, school supplies are a luxury that many classes go without. You can find Schools with just two or three classes and sometimes more than 100 students with one teacher. Kids are going to school without the minimum “pen and paper” and I don’t think that it is fair. They deserve better than that--- a good education. Investing in their education, building schools and providing all necessary materials would be wonderful. But... ... Do you have to be a very rich person to help someone? Do you have to be Bill Gates to open a gate for them? Do you have to be Oprah Winfrey to build schools? It would certainly help but I don’t think that I have to be a billionaire or a rich celebrity to be able to make a difference. Thus, I decided to do something with my "PenFriends" to help my community and children in developing countries who are in need of minimum school supplies. From Pen to School, we have a lot to do; and with common sense, hard work, confidence and faith, we can achieve anything we set our mind to. We will do our best but we cannot do it without you. That's why we need you. With your help, we can go further, and Pen-by-Pen we will make it hap...Pen. Thank you for your support. Drissa Compaore Founder |
